Typical Equipment Setup

  • Icon Gantry-type ultrasonic test system for inspection of pipe body and ends, designed to detect longitudinal, transverse, inclined (22°, 45°, 67°) defects on outer and inner pipe walls, laminations, and to measure wall thickness using phased array (PA) technology.
  • Icon Operator workstation for monitoring and controlling the inspection process.
  • Icon Defect marking unit for automatic marking of detected defects.
  • Icon Closed-loop water preparation and supply system.
  • Icon Set of standard reference blocks (SRB / Calibration Blocks) manufactured from customer material; quantity and design defined during engineering phase.
  • Icon Three-position transportation system for moving pipes between inspection and marking stations, or cross-feed system with entry and exit roller tables.

Application

  • The gantry-type automated test system for high-speed ultrasonic inspection (AUT) of round-section tubes and pipes made of various steel grades with diameters ranging from 60 mm to 920 mm.

Types of defects

  • ProMotors - Icon Square Pipes and tubes inspection: Detection of longitudinal and transverse defects relative to the pipe axis, as well as oblique defects. Furthermore, lamination control and wall thickness measurement are performed.
  • ProMotors - Icon Square Bars inspection: 100% cross-sectional inspection of the bar for internal defects.

Length of Untested End Sections

  • Icon Longitudinal defects: not more than 10 mm
  • Icon Laminations: not more than 10 mm
  • Icon Wall thickness reduction: not more than 10 mm
  • Icon Transverse defects (both directions): not more than 3× wall thickness
  • Icon Oblique defects: not more than 10 mm of pipe feed into inspection zone
